SCO Sends Invoices to Commercial Linux Users
posted by md on Wednesday September 03, @06:20AM
from the Road-to-perdition dept.
News In what has been seen as an attempt to turn up the heat in its quickly-going-nowhere legal battle against IBM and Linux users everywhere, The SCO Group has announced that it will begin sending invoices to commercial users of Linux. There is no word yet on what the invoices will contain, but this most recent move seems to raise the spectre that SCO will be guilty of criminal sanctions if it cannot prove its case in court.

Here's a legal question. I sent a letter to SCO to send me proof that they own Linux. That was several weeks ago. They have not replied. Now should they sue me because I run Linux, can I use that as a defense? I sent them a letter querying about the legal status of Linux and since they failed to reply, they have no grounds to sue me. Would it work?

I think you should ask them again, and give them a specific timeframe to respond. Mention also that if you do not hear from them, you'll consider they admitted their claim to be witout foundation. I think it is called estoppel...
