According to a story on Statewatch,
a secret EU-US agreement on criminal matters, investigative procedures and
joint teams is being negotiated without consulation with the EU or national
parliaments. Details are somewhat sketchy, but what is reported is
very disturbing.
One example :under the heading: "Improve investigation procedures" the
EU is proposing:
"creating a common approach to searches, seizures, interception of telecommunications"
There is no mention of Article 8 of the ECHR (the right to private and
family life) nor any." The report makes is sound as if, among other
things, the EU is willing to "forget" about its own data protection and privacy
rules for the sake of cooperation with the US."
