Yahoo! admitted Wednesday that the company changed the text of emails to prevent hackers from spreading computer viruses. For example, if you typed "mocha," Yahoo! software changed it to "espresso." If you typed "eval," the recipient read "review" (which also means that if you typed "evaluate," the recipient received "reviewuate."). Yahoo! altered words that are commands in the JavaScript computer language, which hackers may intercept to launch viruses. A test message sent yesterday, however, transmitted the words "evaluate" and "mocha" with no changes. Yahoo! has not yet commented whether it has changed company practices.
