World Wildlife Fund Loses "Panda" Legal Battle
posted by justfred on Tuesday July 09, @03:52PM
from the legal-PANDAmonium dept.
News A WIPO arbitrator rejected a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) complaint, which alleged that Allia S.A., a French bathroom and kitchen furniture firm, had no right to use panda.biz as its company website. While the arbitrator found that Allia has no right or interest in "Panda," trademarked in 1961 by WWF, he also found no evidence that the French firm planned to abuse the name. Therefore, WIPO prevented WWF from acquiring the panda.biz site. Incidentally, just last month, the World Wildlife Fund won a court order barring the World Wrestling Federation from using the WWF acronym. Check out Reuters for a full article.
