Iraqs assigned extension .iq has been demanded by Iraq's interim government, but is currently controlled by a Palestinian who is on trial in the US. ICANN can re-assign the name only if the current care-taker has reneged, a tenuous argument. The current holder only got the job because of perceived non-caretakership of the extension by the former government. This important, tangible, and symbolic milestone is seen as a means of jump-starting the nation towards wealth creation. What happened in Afghanistan may provide a model.
