AOL Not Liable for Unauthorized E-books

News "When an overenthusiastic fan uploads his favorite author's novels to a newsgroup on the internet, what is the liability of the internet service provider, such as AOL, for allowing the books to reside for two weeks on their USENET server?" So asks Central District of California Judge Florence-Marie Cooper's in her recent order in the Ellison v. Robertson case. The answer is, in short, none.

An interesting read on contributory and vicarious infringement (and potential AOL Nullsoft liability for gnutella).
