News Lauren Gelman writes "We have yet to experience the true "Internet Election." In that election, the Internet will not simply be a tool for electioneering. Rather, the Internet's design will itself be a prototype for democratic discourse and decisionmaking" in Does Howard Dean's Third-Place Finish in Iowa Rebut the "Internet Election" Concept? Why do we not have an independent and unofficial Internet election? That way the accuracy of the results in this year's presidential election can be checked.

Also, open and accountable electronic election techniques could be demonstrated. This would also make a good show of the weaknesses of unauditable voting machines.
