    Darl is playing deviation (Score:0)

In addition to public benefits, there are powerful PRIVATE benefits and rewards to the GPL copyRIGHT license. 1) You dont have to worry about a unfairly competitor benefitting from improvements to your work. 2) The improvements to the code can help you make more money (example, you release inventory management software ..and somebody contributes an advancement that makes this easier). 2) You, and your family, can benefit from derivative work. 3) Warm, fuzzy feeling. Not all rewards are financial. Darl & Co is trying to reflect the argument away by having the community argue the "leftie" points that "profit is bad", "greed is evil", "profits hinder the advancement of arts and sciences" etc. Clearly an attempt to goad us down the path of looking irrational and whacko. Doesn't matter if greed is evil or profit is bad. Those arguments cannot win in court. The GPL can be shown to have overwhelming PRIVATE and PUBLIC benefit. Consitution never says that reward/benefit must always be in the form of money. Every person who releases their code in the form of GPL is expecting some sort of private reward ..be it financial (from distro, and benefits from future code improvements), or warm and fuzzy.
