Channel Asia and Go Asia: A Chinese court has reportedly opened an appeal trial of four internet dissidents handed sentences of up to 10 years' jail for posting their views online. Xu Wei, Yang Zili, Zhang Honghai and Jin Haike, are due to appear at a Beijing Higher People's Court, after being sentenced for subverting state power for establishing the New Youth Association, a study group that discussed China's growing social problems. The Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy says the defendants are appealing on the basis that three key witnesses have since retracted their statements against them.
