This may not be a story in the core of Greplaw's normal focus, but since it involves the heart of blogging, the Berkman Center and ultimately is a question of open versus closed standards I found it intriguing enough to link to.
It appears there is a fight over the RSS format, maintained by The Berkman Center (also maintainers of Greplaw) and Mr Dave Winer. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it is a web content syndication format. One problem seems to be that certain individuals claim to have a hard time working with Mr Winer and that RSS is not an open format - which is why the individuals that claim to have a problem working with Mr Winer still have to work with him. Mr Tim Bray, co-creator of XML, is quoted in a News.com story stating:
'I observe that there are many people and organizations who seem unable to maintain a good working relationship with Dave.'
Mr John Palfrey, executive director of the Berkman Center, is quoted in the News.com story stating:
'This isn't about individuals; it's about whether one technology is better than another. And we need to make it a discussion about that and not if someone likes one man or not.'
