Digital Entertainment miladus writes "Sharman Networks, parent company of Kazaa is forming the Distributed Computing Industry Association (DCIA) in part to lobby Congress against legislature meant to shut down file sharing sites. According to the washington post the DCIA 'has a more ambitious goal: It wants file sharing to be the music industry's way of distributing music online. '

    1. The RIAA _hates_ filesharing. Filesharing will _never_ be the way to distribute music as long as the RIAA exists as it does today.
    2. Before you get the RIAA behind something, you have to get the bands behind it. Bands, in general (though there are notable exceptions), are afraid of filesharing. Even through a "safe" distribution channel like the iTunes Music Store, bands are hesitant to put their music online (as evidenced by the recent greenday/chilli peppers protest.) Even if it is because they don't want to break up the album, they still don't want to do it.

Organizations like this are nice, but will never work.
