The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) yesterday votes 3-2 in favour of a new set of media concentration rules. The new rules will make it easier for big media companies to acquire and merge with other media companies. Mr Ted Turner, Turner Broadcasting and CNN founder, argues in the Washington Post that the new rules 'will stifle debate, inhibit new ideas and shut out smaller businesses trying to compete.' Mr Turner also states that it would have been virtually impossible for him to start his media business, should these rules have been in place thirty years ago.
