Rumsfeld Directive Re: Sensitive Info Online
posted by scubacuda on Saturday January 18, @11:50PM
from the expanding-the-zone-of-secrecy dept.
Security News.com reports that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld warned in a directive sent to military units this week that too much unclassified but worrisome material was popping up on the Web, and said Al Qaeda and other foes were sure to take advantage of it." Webmasters are warned to follow the 1998 Website Administration and Policies & Procedures guidelines. Those who work to limit government secrecy, such as as Steven Aftergood of Federation of American Scientists, are concerned about the "chilling effects" of such a broad directive.
