Lawsuit Targets Pop-up Ad Spammer

News A class action lawsuit has been filed against pop-up banner ad purveyor Bonzi.com. The suit is based upon the company's pop-up web ads which proclaim " Security Alert: Your computer is currently broadcasting an Internet IP address. With this address, someone can immediately begin attacking your computer!" The ads feature an "OK" button which, when clicked, leads a user to Bonzi.com's portal site, which doesn't have anything to do with security. Over 300 million of the ads are said to have been displayed, and the suit seeks $500 per affected U.S. citizen. The case is pending in Washington State court and ZDNet has coverage, along with MSNBC.

Lawyers for the Plaintiff Class are Lukins & Annis P.S. of Spokane, Washington, who have set up a page with information on the case. Once the class is certified, individual Internet users may join to seek relief.
