The Death of Internet Radio is Upon Us
posted by filter_editor on Tuesday September 03, @10:09AM
from the nascent-business-killers dept.
Digital Entertainment dcm writes "Stoned Out Loud's publisher wanted to add a selection of internet radios feeds to his site, and found it wasn't as simple as a free newsfeed. He wrote up some of his search experience in the article " Internet Radio is Going to Die...Unless You Do Something".

Some useful links included in the narrative point to Antenna Internet Radio, SaveInternetRadio.org, VoiceofWebcasters.org, a place to email Your Congressman, and two places to send a free fax to Your Congressman. There's also a link to all of the House Judiciary's Subcommittee on Courts & The Internet, and Intellectual Property's Hearings and Transcripts page; and it's Chairman, Rep. Howard Coble's email and contact addresses.

Good reading, valuable resources."

It's probably already too late. Take a look around. Last year there were probably 30 or 40 multifeed cut-and-paste html offerings you could put in your web page. Today the links to them are still there, but when you get there, they are dead links.

College radio stations were starting to webcast. Now it is increasingly problematical for them to do so, partly due to technical constraints, but mostly due to the royalty structure imposed by the RIAA-written legislation.

Sad. Oppenheimer looked at the first nuclear explosion, his brainchild, and quoted the Vedas, "I am become death - Destroyer of worlds."

Today the RIAA could just as well state: "I am become pablum - Destroyer of copyright law."
