Matt Asay, business developer at Lineo, published a paper at Stanford Law School on GNU GPL and its effect on innovation. Asay concludes that GNU GPL may be inneffecient in certain aspects, hence should be redrafted. Asay also presents a suggestion for a GNU GPL 3.0, developed by Matt Harris of Lineo. Asay believes the suggested GNU GPL 3.0 may stimulate the development of more consumer products for Linux. Asay is convinced today's GNU GPL is counter-productive when it comes to consumer products by being to focused on the developer instead of the end-user.
Read Matt Asays paper and the suggested GNU GPL 3.0 (the paper is available in PDF-format, but the abstract is plain HTML).
