Critics Call for ICANN Do-Over
posted by md on Thursday May 30, @02:53PM
from the dept.
Internet Governance A noteworthy group of organizations, including the ACLU, the EFF, and EPIC have called for the U.S. government to recall the power it granted to ICANN in 1998 and pick a new body to govern Internet technical policy. The groups, in their letter to the Deparment of Commerce, argue that ICANN has failed to achieve its goals of being transparent and amenable to the public's voice. This follows years of criticism of ICANN's failings by groups like ICANNWatch. Newsbytes covers the story.
