In its first decision, the Singapore Domain Name Dispute Resolution Service has ruled against Viacom. Viacom, owner of MTV and such Asian sites as www.mtv-china.com, filed a complaint alleging that the Taiwanese Elitist Technologies was using the MTV mark in bad faith and profiting from it. The Singapore service denied the complaint, saying the term MTV is descriptive and generic and that Viacom had failed to prove any rights over it.
