SCO Leak Leads to Microsoft
posted by mpawlo on Friday March 05, @04:48AM
from the neverendingstory dept.
Open Source Open-source advocates, such as Eric S Raymond, has claimed that Microsoft has bankrolled SCO's legal attack on Linux. A leaked memo from SCO, published by Eric S Raymond, proves that Raymond is correct. SCO says that the memo is indeed deriving from SCO, but SCO claims the memo's writer was simply confused over the facts of the matter.

    1. If the letter can be authenticated to the courts satisfaction, it could certainly be presented as evidence that Microsoft is in violation of their agreement. The one State which is still holding out might be very inclined to take this view.

    2. The argument that the employee who wrote the letter was simply mistaken is going to be very hard to sustain (even if true -- who would believe).

    3. The Justice Department (under Ashcroft) has already circled the wagons over the Microsoft Settlement. If they ignore this letter, it could become an election issue in some localities. More proof that the Bush administration is in bed with big business (true or not, perception is everything).
