If you ever wondered what Professor Lessig meant when he said that the architecture will affect policy and actual regulation, you may want to try out surfing in an Internet cafee in the Middle East. According to a column by Mr Brian Whitaker, there are two kinds of internet cafees in the Middle East. You can either sit with your back to the wall or you can not. Mr Whitaker states:
'The importance of these seating arrangements should not be underestimated: having your back to the wall means nobody can look over your shoulder to check what you are up to. In other words, it is a discreet way of signalling that the cafe has a laid-back attitude towards pornography.'
