RIAA Website Defaced
posted by mpawlo on Wednesday August 28, @02:07PM

News The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) web site was hacked today. One headline read 'piracy can be beneficial to the record industry". Another read 'where can I find information on giant monkeys' with a link to the biography of Hilary Rosen, RIAA chief executive officer. Although this made me smile at first -- the Rosen link is hilarious -- I personally find the behaviour unacceptable. If you are to criticise the so-called Berman hacking bill you should not endorse illegal activities like this hack.

I don't endorse cracking (please don't call it hacking, honest hackers will get offended). The question is, does the RIAA endorse cracking? When they're the victims, of course not. But they do endorse the Berman Bill, which will let them crack any computer in the US with impunity, if they have reason to think that it's being used for file sharing.

Whoever did this was trying to make a point. I know that many of you understand this already, but it has to be said, for the benefit of those who don't.
