Gnutella's founder Gene Kan has passed away and will be missed by many.
Gnutella is a peer-to-peer file-sharing application, similar to Napster, but with a smarter distributed system. Gene Kan worked with GoneSilent, the working name of a company supposed to do peer-to-peer-development. The team behind Gnutella developed Infrasearch, a Gnutella-based file-sharing system. Among the investors in GoneSilent were Marc Andreessen and Angel investors. Andreessen, probably most known for his Netscape evangelism, while Angel Investors has holdings in companies like AskJeeves and Google. GoneSilent was acquired by Sun Microsystems and later a part of SUN JXTA.
